The Lymphatic System Explained

You’ve probably heard the term lymphatic system, but do you know what it really is? Often called the human body’s drains, it comprises of lymph nodes and glands that keep the body clean of cellular debris.

They carry it to our blood which later gets cleaned by the liver and kidneys. It’s a unique and quite complex system that plays an essential role in our health.

If you’re wondering what cellular debris is, it’s byproducts of many processes in the body as well as toxins, pollutants, pesticides, and more. Our body can get clogged by this sewage and this can lead to serious health problems.

The detox organ system is part of our immune and circulatory system as well. However, unlike the circulatory system, it is not closed. It processes over 20 liters of blood per day, washing away plasma from the blood. Why Does it Need Cleaning?

As soon as cellular debris in your blood builds up, it will clog the system and cause a variety of diseases and disorders of the lymphatic system. The most common disorders are:

  • Lymphoma (and other types of hematologic cancers)
  • Lymphadenopathy (enlargement of the lymph nodes)
  • Lymphedema (blockage)

These disorders come in addition to a wide range of other health problems caused by a clogged lymphatic system.

You’re looking at weight gain, digestive problems, headaches, sinus infections, arthritis, skin conditions, and more.

This is the reason why your lymphatic system needs to be cleaned once in a while.

Don’t worry – you won’t need special expensive treatments or drugs. The lymphatic system can be cleaned completely holistically, but you need to be aware that you’ll need to change your lifestyle.

Below you can see different ways that can ‘unclog’ your lymphatic system and restore your health to a clean slate.

Breathe deeply

The body have 3 times more lymph fluid than the blood, yet no organ for pumping. The lymph system depends on the pumping action of the deep breathing in order transfer the toxins into your blood before the liver detoxifies them. So, breathe out the toxins.

Exercise

Regular exercise ensures your lymph system to flow properly. The mini trampoline is the best method to improve the lymph flow dramatically, but the aerobic exercise and stretching also work great.

Drink more water

Without enough amount of water, the lymph fluid can’t flow perfectly. In order to be sure that the water is absorbed by the cells, add oxygen, lemon juice or pH drops.

Trash the neon-colored drinks

Forget the soda, and the fruit “juices” that have more sugar than fruit in it. All these beverages can add to the overburdened workload the lymph system have to handle.

Eat raw fruit in the morning

Acids and enzymes in the fruit are so great lymph cleansers. Eat the fruit on an empty stomach for maximum lymph cleansing benefits and for best digestion. Most of the fruits are digested by your stomach within 30 minutes.

Eat more green vegetables

Green veggies will deliver chlorophyll to your body that will help to purify the lymph and the blood.

Eat raw and unsalted seeds and nuts

These will provide your lymph system fatty acids that support its function. Choose from almonds, walnuts, Brazil nuts, macadamias, sunflower seeds, flax seeds and pumpkin seeds.

Drink lymph-boosting herbal teas

Echinacea, Astragalus, pokeroot, Goldenseal, or wild indigo root tea are all great for your immune system. You can consult a natural medicine specialist or herbalist before you consume 2 or more herbs, or if you are taking any kind of medication or if you have some serious health disease. Avoid using herbs if you are lactating or pregnant, and also avoid the long use of any kind of herb.

Dry skin brushing

Dry skin brushing fore every shower you take will improve the way your lymph system works. You can just a natural bristle brush. Brush the skin in circular motions upward from your feet to the torso, and then from your fingers to the chest. You have to do this in the same direction just like the lymph flows toward the heart.

Alternate cold and hot showers

The cold causes the blood vessels to contract and the heat dilates them, if you have blood pressure or heart disease avoid this therapy, and also if you are pregnant.

Get a massage

A massage is able to push up to 78% of stagnant lymph back into the circulation. The massage frees your trapped toxins. Also, you can try a lymph drainage massage, which is a special massage that targets the lymph flow in your body. Whatever kind of massage you opt, make sure it is so gentle, because too much pressure can feel good on your muscles, but it doesn’t have the same effect on your lymph system.
