Director Christopher McQuarrie considered casting Julia Roberts for a small role in the latest Mission: Impossible film. As the production pondered de-aging Tom Cruise for a flashback sequence, McQuarrie thought of having Roberts act alongside Cruise. However, the director ultimately decided against it due to the cost and complexity of de-aging multiple actors. Instead, the film kept the flashback sequence simple, avoiding showing the faces of Cruise and actor Esai Morales. The latest Mission: Impossible movie, titled Dead Reckoning Part One, is currently in theaters.
