Julia Roberts recently shared her thoughts on the untimely death of Matthew Perry, who passed away at the age of 54.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Roberts expressed her sadness at the loss and emphasized the importance of cherishing what we have and staying positive. Roberts and Perry had a special connection as they were not only co-stars on the hit TV show Friends but were also in a real-life relationship during that time.

Roberts made a memorable guest appearance in the second season of Friends, playing a former classmate of Perry’s character, Chandler Bing, in the episode titled “The One After the Super Bowl.” Perry revealed in his memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, that Roberts agreed to do the show on one condition – Perry had to explain quantum physics to her. He sought help from the Friends writers to win her over, and their efforts paid off as the two started dating. The episode they filmed together was a comedic humiliation for Perry’s character, with Roberts’ character exacting revenge on Chandler for a past prank.

Roberts fondly recalled her time on Friends, mentioning that the cast and crew were welcoming to her as a guest star. However, their real-life romance was short-lived. Perry confessed in his memoir that his own insecurities and fear of losing Roberts led him to end the relationship. He believed that he was not enough for her and chose to break up with her instead of facing the pain of being dumped. Despite the end of their romance, Roberts and Perry remained friendly over the years.

Roberts is currently promoting her new movie, Leave the World Behind, which will be released on Netflix on December 8. The film contains references to the iconic ’90s sitcom, Friends, adding an extra layer of nostalgia for fans.

Roberts’ reflection on Perry’s passing reminds us of the fragility of life and the importance of appreciating what we have. It also sheds light on the behind-the-scenes dynamics of one of the most beloved TV shows of all time and the brief romance between two of its stars.
