Christina Aguilera welcomed her son Max in 2008 and daughter Summer in 2014
Christina Aguilera is a mom of two.
The “Genie in a Bottle” singer shares son Max Liron with ex-husband Jordan Bratman and daughter Summer Rain with fiancé Matt Rutler.
After welcoming Summer in August 2014, Aguilera opened up to PEOPLE about the challenges of being a working mother and called her children “the center of my universe.”
“It’s definitely not easy juggling work and motherhood, as being a parent is a full-time job within itself,” she said. “You just have to make it work for you. My life has so many different moving parts, but my kids are the center focal piece, and everything else shifts around them.”
Despite the difficulty of trying to find the right work- and home-life balance, Aguilera always comes back to prioritizing her children’s comfort above all else. “It’s definitely not easy. I will openly say that,” she told PEOPLE in May 2019. “The key is truly making sure that they always feel safe and always feel connected.”
From their births to their favorite hobbies, here’s everything to know about Christina Aguilera’s kids.
Max Liron Bratman, 15
Aguilera and ex-husband Bratman welcomed their son Max in Los Angeles on Jan. 12, 2008. The pair — who tied the knot in California’s Napa Valley on Nov. 19, 2005 — reportedly chose the middle name Liron to honor Bratman’s background, as it means “my song” or “my joy” in Hebrew.
“Christina and Jordan are proud to announce the birth of their son Max Liron Bratman,” a rep for the couple told PEOPLE at the time. “He is a beautiful, healthy baby boy! Mom is resting and doing well!”
The “Beautiful” singer and Bratman separated in October 2010 when Max was 2 years old but continued to co-parent. Aguilera told PEOPLE at the time, “Although Jordan and I are separated, our commitment to our son Max remains as strong as ever.”
While Max doesn’t regularly accompany the star on the road when she goes on tour — he often stays with Bratman in L.A. to focus on school — it seems that musical talent still runs in the family. In August 2018, Aguilera revealed that her then-10-year-old son has a beautiful singing voice.
When asked by a fan on X, formerly known as Twitter, whether her daughter knew any of her songs, Aguilera replied, “Summer and I stick to our Disney songs together, BUT, my son Max actually has an incredible voice— he doesn’t showcase it a lot— but I caught him singing Maria [a track on her album Liberation] the other day, and he was pitch perfect. He definitely has talent there if he ever wants to do anything w/ it.”
Though Aguilera largely keeps her son off of her social media, she did share a since-deleted heartfelt birthday tribute for his 12th birthday in 2020. “You have the biggest heart and caring nature, which I’m so proud of seeing and hearing from others who experience being around you – because those are rare, natural instincts that can’t be taught!” she captioned the post. “You just have a special way of making the room light up, commanding attention & bringing new ideas and laughter to any conversation or situation you’re in.”
A few months later, the pair took part in some mother-son bonding while on a trip in a recreational vehicle. Aguilera shared two photos from the outdoors trip of her and Max posing in matching cowboy hats in the RV’s doorway. “Escaped into nature for a bit 💚,” she captioned the sweet images.
Summer Rain Rutler, 9

Aguilera gave birth to Summer, her second child and first with Rutler, on Aug. 16, 2014, in L.A. A few days later, the singer announced the arrival of her daughter with a post on X: “So proud to welcome our beautiful daughter Summer Rain Rutler into the world.”
In February 2015, Aguilera told PEOPLE that she intends to instill a sense of self-worth and non-conformity within her daughter. “I think by having me as a mom she will learn to stand up for herself and others, to work hard and never take no for an answer,” she said. “I never want her to feel that she need to change herself or her body to fit a stereotype. She’s perfection just how she is.”
She also added that she and Rutler chose the name Summer Rain because they felt it best captured their daughter’s spirit. “Summer is a time of spreading warmth and light, while rain washes away … replenishes and brings new life to allow growth and new beginnings,” she said. “I wanted her name to be filled with inspiration, love and joy. And that’s exactly what she brings to all who encounter her. Her beauty and sunshine exude from within.”
When Summer was just 4 years old, she already made a mark on her mother’s music. The musician revealed to PEOPLE that her 2018 album Liberation featured Summer’s voice. “My daughter’s laughter actually begins the intro of the record,” she said. “Being a mother is so important to me.”
In November 2018, Aguilera shared a video of Summer joining her on stage during the St. Louis stop of her Liberation Tour. While the singer belted out “Beautiful,” her daughter shyly cuddled up next to her mom on a set of steps onstage. “Summer begs me to come out every night onstage! And then gets shy … but loves it … she’s taking it all in early …,” she wrote in the caption.
Despite her shyness, Summer got the performing bug after the concert appearance. “[Summer] would absolutely get mad at me if I didn’t invite her on. I was like, ‘We can’t do that every single night, babe!’ It’s very cute,” the Burlesque star told PEOPLE a few months later in 2019. “She loves performance energy, and everybody’s in costume so it’s allowing her to be herself.”
While she may love costumes, it seems Aguilera’s daughter may not necessarily follow in her mom’s footsteps as a glamorous fashionista. When asked if she would save any of her iconic fashion looks for her daughter, Aguilera told PEOPLE in 2021, “I might,” with a laugh.
“She’s a very interesting one. She goes through all the gamut, but she is not the type of girl that likes a fuss,” she said. “She toys with the idea of painting her nails or dyeing her hair even, and then she’s like, ‘Nope, I don’t want to sit through it.’ … She just doesn’t want to be uncomfortable.”
In August 2023, the singer shared a sweet birthday tribute for her daughter on Instagram. She captioned the series of snapshots of Summer joining her on stage at a concert, “Happy 9th birthday to our sweet Summer Rain. Today I find myself reflecting on how fast time has gone by. These 9 years have been filled with boundless love, heartwarming hugs, staying up too late, Disney adventures, and most recently, the joy of gracing the stage alongside you.”
Later that year, Summer celebrated her mom’s 43rd birthday in Vegas — where the singer was rigorously prepping for her residency at the Venetian Resort.
