Kelly Clarkson has filed another lawsuit against her ex-husband.
According to People, on Monday, Clarkson filed another lawsuit, claiming her ex Brandon Blackstock “may actually owe her much more.” As Mamas Uncut previously reported, a judge decided Blackstock already owed Clarkson for his abusing his rule as her manager dating back to 2017.
The documents filed by Clarkson continued, alleging “Blackstock has actually been violating state labor rules since 2007, when she entered into an oral agreement with Starstruck Management, a company founded by his father Narvel Blackstock in 1988,” People reports.
Clarkson asked the court for a “full and complete accounting from Starstruck of all monies received by Starstruck, directly or indirectly, in connection with any and all contracts, employment, or engagements pertaining in any way to the personal services of [Clarkson].”
According to TMZ, while working with the California labor commissioner last year, Clarkson revealed that Blackstock told her she was “sexy” enough to be a judge on The Voice.
This information became public after it was learned Blackstock took millions for Clarkson while acting as her manager.
As the documents show, Clarkson claims that as she was vying for a judge’s spot on The Voice, Blackstock told her NBC was “looking for a more sex symbol type,” something he didn’t believe she was. NBC was looking for someone more like Rihanna, he reportedly told her.
As a result, the documents allege that Blackstock didn’t want to pursue the gig as her manager, even though Clarkson wanted the job.
The documents state that Blackstock had other reasons why Clarkson wasn’t good enough for the role, claiming she didn’t have a face for TV and that she and Blake Shelton were too similar.
Eventually, Clarkson got the job in 2018, but not before Blackstock reportedly testified that he threatened the NBC executives, telling them she would go back to “Idol” if they didn’t sign her. He then lobbied that she get paid “Blake money.”
Kelly Clarkson just got another big win in court as her contentious divorce from her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock continues.
Prior to their divorce in 2022, Brandon was not only Kelly’s husband and the father of her two children but he was also her manager. Now it’s being revealed that during his time as her manager, despite also being her husband, Brandon took millions from his wife.
In documents obtained by TMZ, a judge has declared that Brandon owes Kelly more than $2.6 million dollars. It has been founded that Brandon “unlawfully collected booking commissions” when working as Kelly’s manager.
According to TMZ, Blackstock was reportedly instrumental in securing her deals as a coach on The Voice, as host of the Billboard Music Awards, and more. And as a result, Brandon gave himself a commission for helping secure those deals.
However, as TMZ reports, only agents are legally allowed to earn commission from their clients, not managers. The documents obtained by TMZ reveal that from her role as a coach on The Voice alone, Blackstock took more than $1.98 million in commissions.
Now, Brandon is choosing to appeal the judge’s decision although neither his team nor Kelly’s team has issued a statement regarding this particular legal issue.
Terms for the settlement have Clarkson, 39, set to pay her ex a sizable one-time payment of over $1.3 million as well as child support each month of $45,601 for their two children, River Rose, 7, and Remington Alexander, 5. According to court documents obtained by The Blast, the support payments had already begun in February.
