Let’s be honest – Gatorade is one of the worst things you could possibly put in your body. Gatorade is full of chemically treated & refined sugar, artificial colors, and other ingredients that are horrible for your body.
Did you know, a 20-ounce serving of Gatorade’s Thirst Quencher contains 36 grams of sugar – as much added sugar as there is in 13 Hershey’s Chocolate Kisses?
WHAT ABOUT ALL THOSE IMPORTANT ELECTROLYTES?
The sodium salt is added to Gatorade and many other sports beverages to help with electrolyte replacement. However, Gatorade contains more than twice as much sodium than potassium. The ideal ratio of sodium to potassium intake is roughly 1:3 — that is, potassium intake would ideally be around three times our sodium. This is why Gatorade can’t really provide any beneficial electrolyte restoration.
GATORADE USES ARTIFICIAL COLORS LIKE BLUE 1 AND YELLOW 5, 6
This sports drink claims to replenish electrolytes, but it also contains food dyes Yellow 5 and Yellow 6. These artificial colors are banned in foods for infants and children in the European Union, and they must also carry warnings on all other products there. They are also completely banned in Norway and Austria.
Studies have also linked dyes to allergies, hyperactivity, aggressive tendencies and irritability in children. A British study conducted in 2007 revealed that kids who ate a combination of common synthetic dyes exhibited hyperactive behavior within one hour! Yellow 5 has been linked to several other health problems, including blurred vision, migraines, fatigue and anxiety. Additionally, Countries including Norway, Finland, and France have banned these dyes, likely because they have been linked to brain cancer.
To replace electrolytes you don’t need some tricky formula, man made chemicals, refined sugars or colors. All you need is simple real food sources that provide a few key minerals like sodium, chloride, potassium and magnesium.
