Farmed salmon vs. wild salmon. Which is healthier? Well, you may be surprised to find out that farmed salmon is worse than McDonalds. In fact, it’s a toxic junk food.  Farmed salmon can cause cancer. Sure enough, farm raised might be cheaper but it is worth spending more money on Wild Salmon because of its incredible health benefits.  Alaskan Wild salmon is considered the best type of salmon due to the remote Alaskan waters unlike farmed salmon which pose serious health risks because of the antibiotics and other chemicals used to treat farmed fish.

FARMED SALMON CAN CAUSE CANCER

According to one of the studies, Farm-raised salmon contains much higher amounts of PCBs, dioxin and other cancer-causing contaminants than salmon caught in the wild. PCBs are cancer-causing chemicals that exist in farm-raised salmon at a concentration 16 times higher than wild salmon.

Farmed fish is loaded with Omega-6 fatty acids that cause higher levels of inflammation. Inflammation is a key player in virtually all the diseases and health issues such as cancer, diabetes, arthritis, coronary artery disease and even Alzheimer’s.

Did you know that Farmed Salmon:

  1. have 16 times the levels of PCB’s as wild salmon
  2. are fed pellets of chicken feces, corn meal, soy, genetically modified canola oil
  3. have 30 times the number of sea lice
  4. Farm-raised fish may have as much as 20% less protein compared to wild fish
  5. are fed toxic chemicals to give them color
  6. are given antibiotics to stave off disease that results from crowded conditions
  7. breed more disease

When you go to a restaurant and order salmon off the menu, make sure it says wild salmon. Don’t be fooled by names like “Atlantic Salmon.” Most often it means that salmon was harvested from the Atlantic Ocean, and almost all Atlantic salmon is actually farm-raised.
