The 30 Worst Supermarket Cookies in America

The Oreo, is a chocolate wafer sandwich cookie with a sweet creme filling in between. The version currently sold in the United States is manufactured by Nabisco. Oreo has become the best-selling cookie since its introduction on March 6, 1912, in the Unites States, 104 years ago!

There are 22 notable flavors in the US. Not all varieties are available in every country.

Did you know, when you eat Oreos, your brain has a similar association of pleasure as it does when abusing Cocaine?!

Oreo Cookies are as Addictive as Cocaine

Connecticut College students and a professor of neuroscience, conducted a study of Oreo cookies (given to lab rats) and the reaction to our systems, suggesting they are just as addictive as cocaine.

“Our research supports the theory that high-fat/high-sugar foods stimulate the brain in the same way that drugs do,” said Professor Joseph Schroeder in a statement. “It may explain why some people can’t resist these foods despite the fact that they know they are bad for them.”

Schroeder and his team found that lab rats formed an “equally strong association” between the pleasure of eating an Oreo cookie and being exposed to cocaine or morphine. Research showed eating Oreos activated more neurons in the lab rat’s brain’s “pleasure center” than being exposed to these highly addictive and dangerous drugs.

Other than being highly additive, there are many dangerous ingredients in these sandwich cookies.

Reduced Iron
This is the remaining product of Rust that has been de-rusted by applying an electrical current and hydrogen to the rust.

Synthetic Folic Acid
The product Lactobacillus Casei, a bacteria. The bacteria is treated with multiple acids until a form of folic acid remains, appearing to be almost pure.

Sugar and corn sugar (high fructose corn syrup)
Rats fed HFCS gained 300% more fat than those being fed (even slightly more amounts of) regular sugar or sugar from fruit. It also fattens your heart with bad cholesterol, causing plaque build up, leading to hypertension, heart disease and even stroke. Liver, gallbladder and kidneys process HFCS. It is highly destructive to the liver and can cause fatty liver. Scarring of the liver diminishes its ability to process out toxins that will make you sick. HFCS is also high in Mercury levels. Exposure (in young, growing children especially) can result in irreversible brain and nervous system damage.

Soy lecithin
93% of soy is genetically modified. Soy lecithin can cause breast cancer, has negative effects on fertility and reproduction, may lead to behavioral and cerebral abnormalities.

High Oleic Canola oil
In recent years, scientists have developed sunflower (and other) oils that are bred to be high in monounsaturated fats and low in polyunsaturated fats so they can be used in products that need to be shelf-stable. Canola oil is a genetically engineered plant developed in Canada from the Rapeseed Plant, which is part of the mustard family of plants. Canada paid the FDA the sum of $50 million to have rape registered and recognized as “safe”. (Source: Young Again and others). GMOs are engineered to withstand heavy spraying with pesticides and herbicides and are not routinely tested for safety by the FDA.
According to AgriAlternatives, The Online Innovation, and Technology Magazine for Farmers, “By nature, these rapeseed oils, which have long been used to produce oils for industrial purposes, are… toxic to humans and other animals”.

Soybean Oil
Soy is higher in phytoestrogen than any other food. Phytoestrogens are plant based estrogen that mimic the estrogen in our body. Consuming high amounts of phytoestrogen, is the leading cause of breast cancer, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, infertility and low libido.
-Soy is also the king of cell Goitrogens (thyroid suppressors).
-Phytlates found in soy block mineral absorption.
-Also found in Soy, Trypsin inhibitors, inhibits proper digestion of protein.
-93% of Soy is genetically modified.

Calcium Phosphate
Serious side effects can occur from ingesting calcium phosphate: nausea/vomiting, loss of appetite, constipation, stomach upset, unusual weight loss, mental/mood changes, change in the amount of urine, bone/muscle pain, headache, increased thirst, increased urination, weakness, tiredness, fast/pounding heartbeat.

Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, include: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

Vanillin
It’s chemically produced to mimic the taste of vanilla but is not true vanilla. It is often combined with sugar, corn syrup, or a similar low-quality sweetener to make the product taste better.
