I encountered our future son somewhat by chance. In the park, a boy of about five was sitting on a bench, muttering something, and when I caught up with him, I heard:
– “Mom, don’t drink, I’ll wait for you, I’ll be obedient…”
I sat down next to the boy and asked:
– “What’s your name?”
– “Sasha.”
– “Where is your mom?”
– “She’ll come soon, went to the store, then to the market.”
I was in a hurry to get to work, but when I arrived at the office, I couldn’t calm down; my heart wasn’t in its place, Sasha kept constantly appearing before my eyes…
After obtaining permission from my boss, I rushed to the park. Sasha was sitting on the same bench, huddled from the autumn cold and looking indifferent. Taking his frozen hands, I said:
“Let’s go, have a bite to eat and warm up?”
Sasha clung to my hand without persuasion, and we went to a cafe near the park.
When they sat at the table, I asked:
– “What do you want to eat?”
To my great surprise, I heard:
– “Porridge, only hot, and with a bit of meat…”
Then, in the cafe, I almost cried. I contacted my husband by phone, explained the situation, and two hours later, representatives from the guardianship service came to our place. They had a more in-depth conversation with Sasha and went with him to his mother.
Events unfolded like a snowball. The apartment where Sasha’s mother lived was a real den; it’s unclear how the boy could sleep there. The lead inspector decided to take Sasha to the orphanage, and that same evening, the child was already sleeping in a clean bed after a normal dinner and a bedtime story.
My husband and I often visited Sasha at the orphanage. When the court deprived his mother of parental rights, they took Sasha to their place for the weekend and asked him if he wanted to live with us. Sasha climbed onto my lap, hugged my neck, and shouted:
“Of course, I want to; you’re the kindest and the best!”
The adoption process took about three months, and soon our family was blessed with a wonderful son, whom we grew to love with all our hearts.
Probably, not only troubles but also happiness doesn’t come alone. Soon, I realized that I was pregnant, and Sasha would have a sister. It was simply incredible to see how my son took care of me when I was pregnant. He tried to relieve me of household chores as much as possible, constantly asked how I was feeling, went to the store, walked the dog, in short, behaved absolutely like an adult.
We named our little girl Eva. For some reason, Sasha really liked this particular name, and we decided to meet halfway.
Even at night, when it was necessary to feed the baby, our son got up and only calmed down when Eva, after eating, fell asleep. Walking on the street with a stroller was the best pastime for Sasha. He brushed aside his friends in the yard who invited him to play boyish games:
“I can’t, I’m walking with my sister!”
During one of these outings, the unthinkable almost happened. A car entered the courtyard at high speed, and Sasha literally managed to push the stroller onto the lawn under the wheels, but he himself didn’t have time to dodge…
Thankfully, there were no serious injuries, and our son came out with a slight concussion and bruises. The driver was saved from retaliation by her husband thanks to the timely arrival of the police…
We were already very proud of our son, and after that, his act as a young man, his authority with us simply soared. I am very grateful to fate that the day we met Sasha, I ran to work not along my usual route and encountered this little frozen child who later became our son and saved our little Eva.
