Did you know that sage is a natural mosquito repellent? Burning sage is a very effective way to keep mosquitoes away! Simply throw some sage leaves or sage bundles in a backyard fire pit or in your fireplace to fill your home with a natural mosquito-repelling scent.
Common sage (Salvia officinalis) belongs to the mint family and produces ovate, grayish-green leaves along woody stems. The leaves of the herb produce a strong fragrance and oils that can repel mosquitoes.
If you don’t have sage in your yard, it’s so worth it to buy a small pot.
3 WAYS TO USE SAGE AS A NATURAL INSECT REPELLENT
You can use both fresh and dried sage to keep mosquitos away the natural way:
1. SMOKE MOSQUITOS OUT
Burning sage in the firepit deters mosquitos from entering the vicinity. Adding a little sage to charcoal when starting a barbecue or the wood of your campfire will keep mosquitos away.
2. RUB SAGE ON YOUR SKIN
Simply rub freshly crushed sage leaves onto your skin as both fresh and dried herbs release natural essential oils when crushed. This creates a barrier between you and the mosquitos.
3. MAKE SAGE ESSENTIAL OIL REPELLENT
Wash a glass jar. Pour 10 to 25 drops of sage essential oil into the jar. Add 2 tablespoons olive oil and 1 tablespoon aloe vera to the jar. Mix the ingredients together thoroughly with a spoon. Rub the repellent into your skin.
