Elderberry is a famous flu remedy from traditional medicine. Its well known medical uses go back to the time of the Romans. Elderberry was an official medicine in the U.S. Pharmacopoeia from  1820 until 1890, when it was dropped with most other herbal remedies.

However after Dr. Madeleine Mumcuoglu  published well researched laboratory studies about the efficiency of elderberries, the berries became internationally famous again. It was found that Sambucus nigra species of elderberry was effective against most influenza viruses which included human, swine and avian strains. This led to the creation of a famous elderberry glycerin tincture called  Sambucol. In clinical trials, patients who took elderberry syrup experienced  fast relief of symptoms. 20%  saw major  improvement within 24 hours, 70% by 48 hours, and 90% claimed a complete healing after just three days.  Additionally, researchers proved Elderberry to be effective against eight different influenza viruses.



2/3 cup organic Elderberry powder
3 cups water
3/4 cup raw honey
2 Cinnamon sticks (optional)

2 tablespoons of sliced ginger root


  1. Put all ingredients except for the honey into a pot.
  2. Simmer for 30-45 minutes.
  3. Strain the mixture.
  4. After mixture cools, add the honey and mix well.
  5. Ready to use. Refrigerate if not using immediately.  Enjoy!



Take 1-2 tablespoons of elderberry syrup  every four to six hours or at the first sign of cold or flu.


For children under 12 years old,  take 1 teaspoon elderberry syrup per day for prevention and  1 teaspoon 3-4 times a day


Do not give to babies under 1 year-old
