Cholmondeley’s Scandinavian art collection adorns the walls, and the open-plan kitchen offers views of a secluded garden with a swimming pool. “We are always here in the summer: it is so private,” said Rose.

Rose enjoys living with her family in Houghton Hall. The family doesn’t use the staterooms in any personal capacity as they are too formal. However, they have made a lovely home in their private quarters, which holds a mix of the new and old, including possessions from their travels.
